There are no bad teachers at University, and that makes all the difference.
        Patrick K, Class of 2007

Never before had I had teachers that love what they do as much or care so much about me as at University High School.
        Kristyn A, Class of 2005

Teaching is the most important thing we do. University High School teachers bring a wide array of experiences into the classroom including: running for state office; practicing as a lawyer; serving in the Peace Corps; performing primary research to fulfill a National Science Foundation Grant; singing opera professionally; serving in the Armed Forces; publishing original works of poetry; and owning and running a business. These experiences enrich the classroom. According to Indianapolis Monthly, University High School has the highest percentage of teachers with masters or Ph.D. degrees in the metro area. The University High School faculty comes to the school because they are gifted educators who are passionate about teaching and passionate about their subject. They enjoy working closely with students and inspiring them to take responsibility for their education.

“Because I feel strongly that it is important to put chemicals in the hands of chemistry students, I seldom conduct demonstrations. I let the students learn by doing, not watching.”
        Laura Slocum, chemistry teacher

University High School teachers are invested in the students; they have a proven ability to inspire and guide, to respond to individual differences and to conduct lively, creative, engaging classes. Our teachers are passionate about what they do and bring this enthusiasm to class. They know and care about their students and work to build relationships that encourage students to achieve their full potential. They motivate students; they engage students in intellectual conversation; they provide students with hands-on learning opportunities; they encourage teamwork. Because University teachers are always available to give students the personal attention needed to succeed, students learn not only to master the material but also to love learning.

Faculty is present at every sporting event, concert and theatrical production. You see faculty staying late into the evening to help a student.
