Profile of a University Student
University High School students are talented, innovative and eager to contribute to their community. They enjoy each other and enjoy being in a diverse community that has a shared openness to ideas and experiences. They come to University because they take pleasure in inquiry and learning. It is OK to read a lot, ask many questions and show that you care while being a student at University High School. The University community recognizes students for their unique interests and talents. Current students include Junior Olympians, a musician who soloed in Russia, an actor who performs professionally, a puppeteer and competitive dancers.
University High School is looking for students who range from average through gifted in their academic ability; who want to be taken seriously as students and as community members; and who are ready to face the challenge and excitement of an engaging college-preparatory program. We encourage students and their families to attend an Open House or schedule a meeting with the director of admission to understand the essence of a University High School education.
The students who are best prepared for the academic challenges at University High School have a B average or above. While a standardized test is required, the results of the Independent School Entrance Examination are only a portion of the admission application. We place equal value on the student’s academic record, the campus interview, participation in extracurricular activities, teacher recommendations, written statements provided by the student and parents in the application, and the success of the shadow visit.
