In their senior year, University students follow this schedule:
First Semester
Submit student profiles to the college counseling office by the first day of school.
Ensure that the college counseling office has the Teacher Recommendation form on file by August 15.
Update your Naviance account with the final list of colleges to which student is applying by September 1. This list must include the application deadline for each college.
Request and complete applications by October 31. It is the student’s responsibility to request, complete, and mail college applications. If students are applying to a school with rolling admission, submit the application as early as possible.
Faculty will be writing teacher recommendations during August, September, and October. Students should provide the teacher(s) who is writing their recommendation letter a stamped, addressed envelope for each college to which you are applying by October 1.
Dr. Fadely will write the school recommendation by October 31.
Meet with their parents and the director of college counseling as necessary. Dr. Fadely will always do everything to be available to students during the year. “E-mail/voice mail Mondays” are in effect all year. If a student has a routine question, he or she should e-mail (jfadely@universityhighschool.org) or leave a voice mail message (733-4475, ext. 104) and Dr. Fadely will get back to the student by the end of that week. Students should never hesitate to contact him with a pressing matter regarding the college application.
Take the ACT/SAT again if necessary.
Attend monthly group meetings with the director of college counseling.
Complete the student part of the application and give the section University High School must complete to the college counseling office by October 31. The college counseling office must receive college applications a minimum of two weeks before the application is due to the college. The college counseling office processes applications in the order received. University will mail:
The Secondary School Report
The University High School profile
The student’s transcript
The school recommendation
The mid-year report following first-semester grades
Second Semester
Complete the FAFSA form as soon as possible after January 1 if the family is seeking financial aid.
Submit all mid-year report requests to the college counseling office by January 5. Many colleges require a mid-year report at the completion of the first semester. This is a crucial and required part of your application file and often colleges will not consider a student’s application until they receive the mid-year report.
Monitor applications to be sure that all materials are sent and received on time and that the applications are complete. Stay on top of things and don't procrastinate; you can ruin your chances for admission by missing a deadline.
Colleges begin notifying students of decisions in March for Regular Decision applications.
Attend college spring programs to assist the student in choosing a college.
Participate in scholarship competitions.
The national reply date is May 1. Notify all colleges of a final college decision by May 1. Send in your tuition deposit to the college you will attend. Notify the other colleges that accepted you that you selected another college.
Ensure the office of college counseling knows your final college choice so that final transcripts are sent to the college you will attend.
