Join Us for a Shadow Visit
Spending a school day at University High School is, for many, the best part of the high school search. Through a shadow visit, prospective students spend a full day attending classes, meeting students, talking to teachers, and experiencing life as a Trailblazer.
We are now scheduling 8th grade (and older) shadow visits for fall 2026! Students applying to University High School for the 2027-28 school year are required to complete a shadow visit as part of their application for admission.
Things TO KNOW Before Your Visit
- The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Mondays are the exception, with a delayed start at 9:15 a.m. You should plan to spend the full day with us unless your family has made other arrangements with a Director of Admission.
- Please bring a notebook and a pen or pencil. You are welcome to bring a tablet or laptop, but neither is required. You may bring your own lunch if you prefer, or the school will provide one for you.
- Cell phones and smart watches are permitted during free periods, but you will be asked to store them at the beginning of each class period.
- Please dress for the weather, as you will regularly walk between buildings. You may also spend time outdoors during lunch, academic flex time, and classes.
- You will be assigned a student host who will greet you upon arrival, take you to classes, introduce you to students and teachers, and accompany you throughout the day.
- During your visit, you will have a brief conversation with a faculty member who serves on our admission committee. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, and we will learn more about you and what you are looking for in your high school experience.
I chose University because when I had my shadow visit, I felt more comfortable here than I ever was at my previous school. The community here was amazing, and I felt so welcomed by everyone. I could tell that the teachers genuinely cared about their students and wanted to be there to teach them.
I chose to come to University because I loved the environment. I feel more like a person than just a student, and University has given me more freedom and choice for what I am able to do.
