During today’s assembly, UHS continued its annual tradition of honoring the importance of Veterans’ Day. Dean of Student Affairs Jake Thurman kicked off the meeting, explaining the origin and history of Veteran’s Day worldwide and in the U.S.
Associate Head of School and Dave Vesper, Brigadier General (retired), Indiana Army National Guard, explained the Selective Service and discussed his experience serving our nation, including deployments to Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, from Aug. 2004 to Aug. 05 and Jan. 2012 to Nov. 2012 and deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq, Mar. 2008 to Nov. 2008.
Assistant Head of School Stacey Summitt-Mann shared the news of UHS becoming a Purple Star School along with her family’s experience being in the military. Retired UHS History Teacher Maggy Dean concluded the assembly by delivering an impactful speech that touched the hearts of all Trailblazers.
