Six University High School student musicians from the wind ensemble and string orchestra recently participated in the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) Solo and Ensemble district competition.
Two students earned gold. Freshman Rhea Sharma earned a gold rating in Group II for her flute solo, and senior Jerome Schweitzer’s clarinet solo performance earned him a gold rating in Group I.
This rating made Schweitzer eligible to compete at the state level, and he earned a gold rating at the state competition on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018.
To perform in Group I, students must choose a piece from a list of challenging music. Students earning a gold rating played a performance that was “outstanding in nearly every detail.”
Congratulations to these Trailblazers!
