On Saturday, December 7, Special Olympics Indiana presented a new award that had special significance to one member of the University High School community.
At the opening ceremony of the organization’s State Bowling Tournament, an athlete from Ripley, Ohio was named the first winner of the inaugural Chris Morrison Mental Attitude Award.
This award, named after the University High School’s Director of Community Service, is the first of its kind to recognize an athlete for hard work, positivity, and determination. Naming this award after Morrison honors the years of dedicated service he’s given to Special Olympics Indiana. Morrison has coached basketball with Special Olympics Indiana for 16 years, has done the Polar Plunge approximately 15 times (including several years as part of a UHS team, like in 2019), has worked area track meets, has volunteered with soccer teams, and so much more.
At University, Morrison coordinates the Year of Service program and shares his passion for giving back with students and staff alike.
Congratulations, Chris Morrison!
