University High School is excited to welcome a new part-time photography instructor to our faculty this fall. Please join us in welcoming Alyssa Wei!

Alyssa Wei will join the University High School faculty as a part-time photography teacher starting this fall. She comes to University with a rich history in graphic design and illustration, having earned a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis. Wei gained familiarity teaching in independent schools as a substitute teacher and assistant art teacher for several years at Sycamore School. She recently earned her K-12 Indiana Teaching Certification in visual arts from Indiana Wesleyan University, and she recently completed a student teaching experience at North Central High School, teaching classes ranging from Ceramics to Beginning Photography.

Wei shares her home with three great kids, a wonderful husband, and nine pets (plus a tank of fish and a few goldfish bowls), which cover all animal kingdoms except amphibians. The pets often serve as inspiration for her artwork, especially each year when they design their holiday card as a family. Wei also enjoys gardening, hiking, and distance running, all of which provide opportunities to sketch and take photos while surrounded by nature.

“University High School students are amazingly creative, energetic, and productive,” said Wei. “I am really looking forward to having insightful discussions with the students and engaging with their unique solutions to our projects!”
