Congratulations to University High School senior Mackenzye Penn and junior Valerie Kraft for their recent wins of Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of Central and Southern Indiana!
Over 2,500 submissions were received from Central and Southern Indiana students in categories such as architecture, mixed media, sculpture, flash fiction, and more.
Valerie won a Silver Key in the Personal Essay/Memoir category for her piece, entitled “Rage. Grief. Acceptance.”
Kenzye won four awards total for her art portfolio and several of her individual pieces. She won Gold Key awards for her sculpture “To be the Perfect Friend” and her sculpture “Speak.” She won a Silver Key for her art portfolio, entitled “Success and Failure,” and an honorable mention for her sculpture, “Stress.”
An award ceremony for regional winners will be held at Butler University on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. in Clowes Memorial Hall.
Here’s how the award levels are broken down:
- Gold Keys are awarded to work demonstrating the highest level of achievement in originality, personal voice and technical skill.
- Silver Keys are awarded to distinguished work demonstrating achievement at the regional level.
- Honorable Mention Awards are awarded to work demonstrating creative potential.
