Meditation has been proven to boost brain function, mood, focus, and processing speed. A regular practice is linked to lower stress, anxiety, pain perception, and blood pressure, while improving sleep, willpower, emotional regulation, compassion, and relationships. A Harvard study found that 30 minutes of daily meditation for eight weeks changed brain structures, including the hippocampus (memory) and amygdala (fear/anxiety).
Beginning on Fall Break, students can choose to participate in a 40-day meditation challenge. Participants are encouraged to meditate for 10-40 minutes daily, though any time counts. Students can track their progress (dates and time spent meditating) through Friday, Dec. 13 (just before final exam week). To enter a $50 Amazon gift card drawing, students must submit their meditation log and a short reflection on how meditation impacted them. Contact Lade with questions.
Meditation Tips:
-
Create a calm and quiet space for your practice
-
Distractions are natural; use them as a cue to gently return to present awareness
-
Silently repeat the word “now” in your mind to help stay grounded in the present
-
Focus on your breath as an anchor to keep your attention in the moment
-
The goal isn’t to “clear your mind,” but to train it to return to the present, again and again.
