They’re headed to state! University High School’s Academic Team took 2nd place in the White River Academic League tournament on Saturday, Feb. 4. With that finish, the team has qualified for the March 18 state tournament.
Seniors Evan Vesper and Elise Zaniker, and juniors Alex Brinkman, Alex Johnson, Jack Paganelli, and Jay Maturi represented UHS in the league tournament. The team won every match that day — defeating Monrovia, Lapel, Fishers, Southport, Brebeuf, and Harrison — before losing a close championship match to Zionsville. The team even set a new school record for points scored in a single match, scoring 87 in the match against Southport.
