University High School senior Monica Chavan was recently named an Indiana Academic All-Star for 2015. She is one of just 40 All-Stars selected from the state of Indiana.
Monica’s achievements as a Trailblazer have been numerous. She was named Academic All-State in soccer and tennis, an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Semifinalist, a Presidential Scholars candidate, a Wells Scholar recipient, and the winner of the University of Chicago book award. She plans to attend Case Western Reserve University in the fall.
As part of the award, Monica got to name her most influential educator at University High School, and she chose Maddy MacAllister. Monica wrote about Maddy, “I didn’t think that I had much growing left to do [when I came to high school], but Maddy showed me that I did. With her genuine enthusiasm for all things in life — from soccer to yearbook to school spirit — Maddy demonstrated to me that people are more than just their brains.”
