University High School is pleased to announce that Dimitri Georgakopoulos (’16) has been named the Head Coach of the UHS girls soccer team.
Dimitri has a long history with University, first as a standout player from 2012-16 and later as an assistant coach for both the boys and girls programs. As a senior, he was unanimously voted team captain and received the Trailblazer Award, a recognition of his leadership and dedication. His impact on UHS soccer extended beyond his playing days—he was an assistant coach when the girls team won its first sectional championship in 2017 and recently served as an assistant coach in the boys program.
Beyond soccer, Dimitri’s academic journey led him to Kenyon College, where he earned a degree in Mathematics with a focus in Statistics, followed by a Master of Science in Logic, Computation, and Methodology from Carnegie Mellon University. Now in his second year as a faculty member at University, he brings both deep institutional knowledge and a passion for student development to his new role.
When asked about his connection to UHS soccer, Dimitri shared how the program shaped his own life and trajectory. His understanding of the values of University High School and the role athletics play in a student’s growth made him the ideal candidate to lead the program.
