Final exams for the fall semester begin on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and run through Thursday, Dec. 18.
Exams will be taken in the room where the class normally meets unless the teacher specifies otherwise. If students have three exams on Tuesday, they may work with the teacher and their mentor to reschedule one of their exams to Wednesday’s flex period or another period. Students should speak with their teacher and mentor to arrange this.
If the final exam is a project or paper, the teacher may or may not require the students to meet during the final exam time. However, if students are on campus during the final exam period, they must sit in the course’s classroom for accountability, even if there is no final.
University High School will be open on final exam days from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m., as usual. Students are only required to be at school when they are testing, but they may not leave campus between exams. For example, if a student’s first exam is at 1 p.m., the student does not need to arrive before that time. Likewise, if a student finishes exams at 12 p.m., they may leave campus at that time.
Testing With Accommodations
Students who qualify for extended time and have not met with Ellyn Walerstein to request accommodations must complete this form by Monday, Dec. 1, to register. See the right column in the chart above for times.
Senior Opt-Outs
Seniors may opt out of two final exams per year, provided that:
- The course is on in which the teacher allows opt-outs (per course policy)
- Students must have earned an A- or higher in the course.
- A senior may not opt out of the final exam in both the fall and the spring for the same class/discipline. For this purpose, two advanced English electives count as one course, as do two advanced social studies electives.
