University High School freshman Becca Elliott recently received a grant from the Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program to install a butterfly garden on University High School’s campus.
Becca is an alumna of The Orchard School, and she wanted to bring her previous experience of tagging Monarch butterflies with her to University. In her proposal, she wrote, “The Blazer Butterfly Garden (BBG) is a perennial flower garden specifically designed to attract and support Monarch butterflies [and other native Indiana pollinators]. It is approximately 240 square feet in size and includes a wide variety of both native larval and nectar plants. Upon its completion, the BBG will also meet criteria set by the Monarch Watch program that will allow us to be registered as an official Monarch Waystation.”
The garden will be completed this spring.
