Inspired by popular January Term courses, join University faculty Wes Priest, Jake Thurman, Alicia LaMagdeleine, and Adrianne Glidewell Smith for our first-ever, adults-only June Term adventure!
This travel experience will center around the concepts of literature and place. Each of our four destination cities was home to several literary giants, and our time in those cities will offer us the opportunity to explore beyond the typical tourist stops and understand how these locations influenced key works. Traveling by train between destinations offers a unique glimpse into the charming hamlets and picturesque countryside that surround these iconic cities.
We will begin in Edinburgh, Scotland, a UNESCO City of Literature, to see both the origins of the modern library and envision the life of poet Robert Burns. In London, we may visit the Poet’s Corner at Westminster Abbey and explore the Bloomsbury district, the former haunt of literary giants like E.M. Forster and Virginia Woolf. Our time in Paris will center on its relevance to a number of expatriate American authors, and our journey concludes in Marseille, where we’ll explore the Mediterranean’s lasting influence on writers.

- Destinations: Edinburgh > London > Paris > Marseille
- Cost: $5,000 per person (based on double occupancy; flights can be arranged for an additional fee of approx. $1,500)
- Includes: 8 nights of hotel accommodations, train travel, daily breakfast, and 4 group dinners
- Eligibility: Open to University parents (past and present), friends, and alumni – age 21+
- Schedule: Monthly meetings and readings in March, April, May, and June
