University High School junior Lady Carrington Craig recently attended the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Conference in Chicago, an experience that deepened her passion for engineering and allowed her to connect with others who share her interests.
Lady Carrington has been involved in engineering organizations since the age of six and has been a member of NSBE since 2022. She aspires to become an aeronautical/aerospace engineer and is committed to expanding STEM opportunities for younger students. In 2016, she joined the Minority Engineers Program of Indiana (MEPI), an organization that fosters student engagement in STEM fields, with a focus on engineering and information technology.
Reflecting on her experience at the NSBE Conference, Lady Carrington emphasized how valuable it was to be part of a community dedicated to engineering.“Programs like NSBE are essential to the success of students and professionals at every stage of their engineering journey,” she said. “The conference provided a unique opportunity to expand my network and gain insight into areas of engineering that aren’t always widely discussed. Seeing so many like-minded individuals—some just beginning their careers, others well-established, and many preparing for retirement—was incredibly motivating. Hearing their stories of resilience and determination reinforced my passion for engineering, and I look forward to attending NSBE for many years to come.”
In addition to her own engineering pursuits, Lady Carrington has created a scholarship fund for middle school students interested in STEM activities, helping to support the next generation of young innovators. We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing how she continues to grow in the field of engineering!
