Indianapolis is hosting the 27th annual National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) People of Color Conference from Thursday, Dec. 4 to Saturday, Dec. 6 at the JW Marriott, and several UHS students will perform at the opening and closing ceremonies. The UHS choir and string ensemble will perform in front of nearly 4,000 conference attendees from all parts of the U.S.

In addition to those performing, eight UHS students — Natalie Murdock, Nia Townsend, Marcelius Lewis, Melissa Kraft, Mackenzie Kiebach, Olivia Hwang, Jay Maturi, and Madison Weimer — will participate in the concurrent Student Diversity Leadership Conference. The SDLC is one of the largest, most diverse gatherings of private school students nationwide.

University High School has been intimately involved in putting together this conference, as assistant head of school Alicia LaMagdeleine has served on the local planning committee.
