Typically, independent high schools set an application deadline or a series of deadlines, and then all applicants are notified of the decision in February. At University, we subscribe to a rolling admission format. Students may apply at any time and will be notified as soon as their application file is complete. At University, applicants need not wait to hear about their status, we share that news as soon as a decision has been made. We believe that asking 8th graders to apply and then wait several months is not the best way to engage with them. And, while some students ay not apply until the springtime, we are encouraging applicants to apply now.
Here are some frequently asked questions about rolling admission at University High School to help you better understand our process:
It’s early November, how many applicants are on file as of today?
University’s admission office has been particularly busy this fall. We think that more and more families are learning about what we have to offer and want to make sure to secure a place in the Class of 2021. 25 applicants have been received as of today!
Is it advantageous to apply before January 1?
It is! For merit scholarships and need-based financial aid, the bulk of our awards will be made in early January.
Am I at a disadvantage for admission if I apply in December?
You are not! In fact, we will be accepting applications into the second semester. However, you may want to take advantage of No Application Fee November, and save yourself the $50 application fee! What a great time of year to have a little extra cash on hand.
If it’s rolling admission, why apply now? Can’t I apply at anytime?
While you may apply at anytime, applying now will allow you to have a firm understanding of your status and will allow you to spend the holiday season and beyond focusing on being an 8th grader!
