
What began, as Miles describes it, with “a very big equation and a lot of late nights” has grown into a company with nearly a dozen teammates, including recent University alum Emily Ganter (’24). LunarBoost blends rigorous quantitative finance with a custom AI model that factors in less tangible but equally important qualities like leadership durability and founder track record. In back tests, the system has shown striking results, drawing interest from both everyday investors and major firms.
While the company itself was sparked outside of school walls, Miles is quick to connect his entrepreneurial journey back to University. Leading a J-Term course alongside Chris Bradley and Leann Gemelas-Wood gave him early practice in guiding peers, learning from others, and discovering that strong leadership requires humility as much as confidence. “Sometimes my peers asked me questions I don’t know the answer to,” he says. “That experience taught me that leadership is also about learning alongside others.”
He also points to the culture of mentorship and collaboration at UHS, where teachers treat students as partners in learning. “Being seen as a peer by adults here gave me the confidence to walk into rooms with industry leaders and speak seriously about our work,” Miles reflects.
The launch of LunarBoost is not without risk, and Miles embraces that. “If we were sure of everything, there’d be no joy in trying,” he says. “Living with the uncertainty, working hard on something that could fail or succeed, that’s what makes it meaningful.”
That mindset mirrors Living the Questions, University’s guiding theme for the 2025–26 school year. At its heart, the phrase is about curiosity, courage, and stepping into challenges without guaranteed answers, the qualities Miles embodies as he takes this next step.
As LunarBoost moves forward, Miles balances the excitement of launch day with the realities of being a high school senior. Whether the venture becomes a long-term career or simply a remarkable learning experience, it already stands as proof of what University students can achieve when they follow their curiosity, support one another, and lean into the questions.
