University High School senior Samantha Purdie has been named an Indiana Academic All-Star by the Indiana Association of School Principals, one of the state’s most prestigious academic honors recognizing well-rounded excellence in the classroom and beyond.
Each accredited high school in Indiana may nominate one senior for consideration, with a statewide committee selecting just 40 students as Academic All-Stars. This year, Samantha was chosen from a pool of more than 220 nominees.
At University, Samantha’s record reflects that balance. A Lilly Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction, she has pursued a rigorous academic path while remaining deeply engaged in school and community life. Her involvement includes Science National Honor Society, the Ribe Project Club, SALT Service and Outreach, and volunteer work with St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, along with serving as a peer tutor.
Head of School Alicia LaMagdeleine shared, “What impresses me most about Samantha is that she is often the smartest person in the room, but she never makes you feel it. She is equal parts intelligent, humble, and kind. Samantha is the type of young person who, if entrusted with something—a duty, a gift—will honor it, protect it, and turn it into something more. I can’t wait to see all she accomplishes, at Notre Dame and beyond.”
Samantha plans to pursue a career in oncology research, with the goal of becoming an oncologist.
She was honored at a statewide luncheon on April 23 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, accompanied by Head of School Alicia LaMagdeleine and social studies faculty member Brett Krieble, whom Samantha selected as her influential educator. As part of the program, each Academic All-Star recognizes a teacher who has made a meaningful impact on their academic journey.
