Earlier this month, nine University High School musicians competed in the Indiana State School Music Association’s (ISSMA) Solo and Ensemble district competitions.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, musicians who play wind instruments, percussion, and strings competed. The following four Trailblazers qualified for the state competition on Saturday, Feb. 29:

  • Christian Baltz, cello
  • Eli Beheler, euphonium
  • John David Bell, tenor saxophone
  • Sophia Hwang, violin

On Saturday, Feb. 8, musicians competed in the vocal and piano competition. One Trailblazer qualified for the state competition on Saturday, Feb. 22:

  • Katherine Zhong, piano

Additionally competing at the district competition were Avani Papadopoulos, violin, Jada Swearingen, cello, Rachael Major, vocal, and Maya Callan, vocal.
