Their signs said things like “Stop denying the Earth is dying” and “The oceans are rising, and so are we,” so there was no mistaking their message.
On Friday, March 15, several University High School students participated in the Indiana Youth Climate Strike at the Indiana Statehouse, demanding government action be taken on climate change.
“We’re standing with the belief that climate change is real, and we need more action to be taken,” said junior Ella Eskenazi, who coordinated University High School’s presence at the protest along with sophomore Anvitha Vadlamudi.
More than 250 students from schools across the state participated in the protest, and Indiana’s protest was one of hundreds held across the country and in more than 100 countries around the world. The idea originated with Greta Thunberg, a Swedish teenager who skipped school in August 2018 to strike against climate change, and she has since sparked a global movement of young people urging their elected officials to take action to protect the planet.
