The Trailblazers, who had several students participating, earned a variety of individual event ribbons and finished the competition with three high-school-level trophies!
Concurso Académico features several events throughout the day that test students’ Spanish skills. The language portion tests topics such as grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and scrambled sentences. Students can also be tested on their recitation, non-stop conversation, and spontaneous speech. Lastly, there are competitions in trivia, vocal music, Latin dance, drama, piñata, and posters.
UHS students competed in pre-selected events to earn state-level award ribbons for placement within the top 5 contestants.

“Our students met and socialized with other Spanish students and participated in various fun activities,” said Spanish instructor Mercedes Muñiz-Peredo. “Competitions included grammar, non-stop conversation, scrambled sentences, vocabulary, impromptu speaking, and a trivia activity called Trivia del Toro. It also included other activities such as dance, vocal, posters and even a piñata competition. In short, it was a day full of fun and camaraderie.”
