Thirteen members of the University chapter of DECA competed in the DECA District 4 competition last week, with eleven members advancing to the state competition, which will be held virtually in late February.
The results of the competition were presented this past weekend on YouTube Live and included University chapter president Abby Copeland as an announcer.
Advancing to the state competition are individuals Abby Copeland, Nerissa Finney, Jordan Herbst, Kharee Hogss, and Karl Wang. The teams advancing to the state level are Aisha Kokan and Sarah Naidu, Kushal Murthy and Adam Witzman, and Cate Dollins and Anastasia Reinholt.
Kokan and Naidu were first in their category (Business and Law Ethics), Finnen was second in her category (Entrepreneurship), and Copeland, Herbst, and Wang were all third in their respective categories (Entrepreneurship, Quick Serve Restaurant Management, and Principles of Marketing)
Also during this weekend’s Awards Presentation, University’s own Mike Hagan was recognized as the district’s Outstanding Chapter Advisor.
DECA enables aspiring entrepreneurs and emerging leaders to be ready for the challenges of their future endeavors through community service, real world experience, and career-oriented competition.
