University High School is proud to recognize senior Lauren Langer (’25), president of University’s Bring Change to Mind chapter and a student therapy-dog handler, for her participation as a guest speaker at the Chris Center’s inaugural “Wags for Wellness” fundraiser.

Last year, Lauren became the youngest person to earn dog handler certification through the Chris Center’s PAWS Team. In her speech, she discussed the importance of mental health, the powerful bond between humans and animals, and her personal experiences as a therapy dog handler. Her message deeply resonated with the audience, earning her a standing ovation.

The Chris Center, Inc., a Central Indiana nonprofit, offers an innovative approach to teen wellness by connecting adolescents to nature and providing opportunities for human-animal interaction. Their programs are grounded in research that demonstrates the health and wellness benefits of these interactions, including improved self-esteem and mood, increased social engagement, and decreased symptoms of anxiety and depression.

We are excited to see Lauren bring her passion and energy back to UHS, especially as she leads our upcoming “Mental Health Mondays” program with her therapy dog, April.
