On Saturday, April 9, senior Andrew Laramore was awarded Mr. Beautillion Militaire 2022 and The John Joyner Leadership Award by 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Inc. at the 36th Annual Beautillion Militaire Program.
The culminating event was held at Newfields’ Tobias Theatre, with 200 community leaders, volunteers, family members, beautillion participants, mentors, and friends in attendance. This formal recognition reception gives the young men in the Beautillion Militaire program an opportunity to showcase their musical and other creative talents, drill precision, as well as their scholastic achievements.
The mission of the Beautillion Militaire program is to further develop African American young men who have the capacity to be critical thinkers, culturally grounded, globally conscientious, and purpose-driven in their pursuit of productive relationships. This is accomplished through a 16-session program for approximately 26-40 males, over a 26-week period, who are traditionally juniors and seniors in Indianapolis metropolitan area public and private high schools. During the Beautillion experience, the young men (Beaus) are presented with a variety of self-improvement topics such as wealth creation, personal financial management, post-secondary educational opportunities, preparing for college and multinational awareness. They attend cultural activities, build peer relationships, and are exposed to multiple career development activities through career mentors from the 100 Black Men and others who share their professional careers. The Beaus also receive information that builds their knowledge and skills about health, religion, dating and relationships, and other topics that will enhance their preparedness for adulthood.
Founded by Jack and Jill of America, Inc. – Indianapolis chapter, the comprehensive leadership development, community mentorship, community service and personal development program recognizes the hard work and investment of young adults committed to scholarship, service, and self-improvement each year.
The title “Mr. Beautillion Militaire” is presented to the Beau who accumulates the most overall academic achievement, service, fundraising and program participation points. The John Joyner Leadership Award is presented to the Beau who best exhibits the qualities of leadership and excellence determined by a vote of the body of beau peers in the Beautillion Militaire program.
Laramore will attend Hampton University in the fall, majoring in psychology/business.
