In-Person Shadow Visit: What to Know

We can’t wait to welcome you to campus! By scheduling an in-person shadow visit, you will have the opportunity to experience the essence of the University High School community.

Here are a few things to consider as you prepare for your shadow visit day:

Before Your Visit

• The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. (Mondays are the exception, with a delayed start at 9:15 a.m.) Guests are expected to spend a full day with us, unless arrangements are made with a Director of Admission.
• Kindly bring the following to your visit: a notebook and a pen or pencil (tablet or laptop is optional). Guests may bring their own lunch if they prefer, but an individually packaged lunch will also be provided.
• Ensure you are healthy before coming for your visit. If you are feeling sick on the day of your visit, please contact Ashley Crockett-Lohr, Director of Admission, at 317-733-4475, ext. 120 or acrockettlohr@universityhighschool.org to reschedule.
• Dress for the weather, as students regularly walk between buildings. Students also often spend time outdoors during lunch, academic flex time, and classes.
• You will be assigned a student host to greet you upon arrival, take you to classes, introduce you to students and teachers, and accompany you throughout the day. You will likely receive a welcome text or email from that student host prior to your visit day.

During Your Visit

• Please arrive by 8:15 a.m. (or 9:00 a.m. on Mondays) on the day of your visit. All guests must enter through Door 1 in Fairbanks Hall. A Director of Admission — Taylor Newell or Ashley Crockett-Lohr — will greet you in the lobby and introduce you to your student host.
• You will be assigned a schedule of courses for the day. Your student host will walk you to all of your classes and introduce you to the teacher. View the Daily Schedule page of our website for information on class times.
• We will provide a lunch for you on the day of your visit, unless you opt to bring your own. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
• You will eat lunch with your student host.
• At some point during the day, you will have a short conversation with a faculty member who serves on our admission committee. In this conversation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, and we will learn more about you and what you’re looking for in your high school experience.
• At the end of your visit, you will meet with a Director of Admission — Taylor Newell or Ashley Crockett-Lohr — to close out the day, address your questions, and say goodbye.
