A surprise visit from Lee White on Wednesday, Dec. 6 came with big news for one University High School senior.

White, Vice President of National Accounts at Mainscape, Inc., is a board member of the Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), so he came to University High School that afternoon to tell Maddie Sersic (’18) that she had won a Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.

See her reaction in the video below:

Sersic is the first University High School student ever to win this prestigious scholarship, which pays up to four years of full tuition at any accredited public or private not-for-profit college or university in Indiana.

A total of 143 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships were awarded this year. Nine of those went to Marion County residents, one of whom was Sersic. She is the only recipient who resides in Marion County but who attends high school in Hamilton County. Additionally, four scholarships were awarded to Hamilton County residents.

With funding from this scholarship, Sersic plans to attend Butler University and major in English or Biology.

Congratulations, Maddie!
