From the artist (About AP SUSTAINED INVESTIGATION Work):
This portfolio captures the effect of my long term relationship on my own sense of independence. More specifically, this portfolio shows the greatness of the impact as the relationship itself came to an end.
I began to develop this work attempting to encapsulate relationships in a generalized way, but as the work evolved I moved towards solely capturing my own. Long term relationships have big effects on those in them, but especially as teenagers grow and from who they are as people, these types of relationships can interfere with the growth in their identities independently. These images are meant to reflect the exact experiences I was having in real-time, but also to highlight the increase in distance as I grew more in my independence from my long term partner.
Images 1-6 show a steady progression of physical distance between my partner and I. Images 7-8 highlight my partner alone, with me on the opposite side of the lens. Images 9-10 depict my own personal reflection of the relationship upon viewing old letters and notes. Dust and natural scratches from expired film contribute to the feeling of nostalgia of the past relationship.
