On Thursday, Nov. 13, the Percussion Ensemble and drummers from Modern Band attended the Percussive Arts Society International Conference in Indianapolis. Students took part in masterclasses led by professional clinicians, attended two concerts, and explored emerging percussion technology in the exhibit hall. One concert featured new music and performance art, while the second showcased the Michigan State University Percussion Ensemble, winners of the 2025 International Percussion Ensemble Competition. The day offered students a rare opportunity to learn directly from leading artists in the percussion world.

Three Wind Ensemble students were also selected for the Indiana All-Region Honor Band, an ensemble chosen from more than 500 student musicians statewide. Jane Ai (clarinet), Ellie Eaton (bass clarinet), and Leo Salerno (trombone) spent Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16,in clinic and rehearsal sessions, working with a guest conductor and preparing advanced repertoire alongside peers from dozens of schools. Their dedication, preparation, and focus were outstanding.

The department is now turning its attention to winter concert preparations. Performances will take place during the week of Dec. 8 and will feature all of University’s music ensembles, as well as small group performances. Desserts, cocoa, coffee, and tea will be served as part of the celebration.
